Bon Accord 2010 was a good show for Caitlin. She handled Monty to 2nd place in his breed class, Then BOB and group 3 with Solo this leaves her only 1 point to get before he can get his ShCM. Inka was Bob but did not get anything in the group. Caitlin was 1st in her handling class this qualifies her for SKC finals 2011.

Caitlin has been lucky to qualify for the Junior Handling semi-finals every year since she started handling. As it is so far to go we promised that she would be able to take part in the semi's when she was 16. This year we went down! Guilford on the saturday for the JHA semi- fiinal and on the Sunday Fort William for a local show in total 1300 miles.

Caitlin was given a fantastic 4th place at Richmond. Then at Fort William Solo was BOB and group 4. Inka BOB and group 2. A lot of miles travelled but we all had fun.

Glenn went down to Glasgow on the 3rd September for a weekend of training and at the end was graded to a 1st dan in Tae-kwon-do. He has been working towards this since he was 4 1/2

Caitlin had a good weekend although she missed her breed class with Solo she was placed VHC in YKC on the saturday. On the sunday she borrowed an Austrailan Shepherd Dog and won the YKC class. She also had a go at the YKC biathalon, Solo did really good heel work on the lead but decided that there could be lots more fun to be had outside the ring so spent most of his time out there. Caitlin was then given a shot of a Mittel for her handling section and won it!

Solo celebrated his 1st birthday on the 4th July. Caitlin took him along to Bon Accord show in Aberdeen on the 3rd July and was really pleased with him as he won BOB, Best Terrier also Best Terrier puppy. Not bad for his last day in puppy!

Dad, Caitlin and I were at Border Union Yesterday. Caitlin got VHC with solo in Puppy Dog and was shortlisted in a big junior handling class although not placed. I was handling poppy dog and was 2rd in AVNSC Terrier/hound/gundog post grad bitch, did not get anything in JH.

Caitlin took part in the YKC groomer of the year competition and was really pleased to get a 2nd in her class. She borrowed a cesky from a friend to clip and did a great job.

We have been to a few shows recently and both Caitlin and Glenn have enjoyed some success in their handling classes.Caley show in Edinburgh Caitlin was 1st in both her junior handling classes while Glenn had 2 2nds in his he now has to move up to Caitlin's class.

Solo has so far this year won 3 minor puppy classes, got a puppy group 1,2 and 4.

Caitlin and Solo also had a very good day with 1st in Minor puppy and puppy group 2. Also in the handling class was very happy with her 2nd to Becky.

Ceilidh really enjoyed her day out with BOB and group 3.

Due to the ever ending severe weather we are not risking going to planned dog shows, Ceilidh above is enjoying the snow!!

We decided that we could clip the horses this is Francis with her owner Kate.

Hopefully we will be dogshowing next weekend although we hope the weather will warm up a bit as it is the auction mart in Inverurie for the show.

Today we should have been at the first dogshow of the year. We are still having lots of snow and the road between us and Aviemore was not good yesterday so we thought we would not take the risk!! Last night Sheila came along to listen to Honey! Straight away she said that Honey was unbalanced which stemed from the fact she cannot keep a possible vitamin in her diet! Also that Honey is happy with us but that we are taking things too slowly for her and she needs to be kept active! Honey does not like the fact that one of the other horses in the yard shows no respect for her owners and will not stand when being tacked up! She hates bad manners at feed time. It was a wierd experience and quiet a bit of what was said really did ring true. Today I am going for a pro-biotic to help with absorption although any other ideas very well come!!

Yesterday Caitlin was 15 years old. As her favourite film and musical was Annie when she was younger we thought we would suprise her with a visit to Eden Court. We picked the busiest performance and it was fantastic. Sue Pollard was a great Miss Hannigan. The star of the show had to be Danny the dog who played Sandy (soft coated wheaten terrier).
Later she had some friends over for a sleep over as usual not much sleeping was done.
We will post some photos later.

Today we went to Camperdown Park in Dundee.

Caitlin and Gillie went Best of Breed. Caitlin was also 4th in the Young Kennel handling from a class of 11.

We have had Honey around a year now. Although Caitlin can sit on her back we have since learn that Honey had been running feral in the New Forest and had not been in human contact for the first 3 years of her life. So we have really gone back to basics, it has been a very long and sometimes not very rewarding. She has now accepted and joined up using the long rope method. So watch this space.

Today Mum and Caitlin went off to Findhorn for their girls group. I on the other hand was left with Nanny, after Diagnosis Murder(YAWN) and Doctors(COUGH) we went on a walk to The Lein. On this walk we took Inka, Poppy and Rowan.

After the stress of the previous puppy activities Caitlin and I decided that we would still go to Bon-Accord dog show. It is held out doors with no wet weather facilities, though the sun was out all day.

Last night Kia decided to whelp her puppies. We had to asist with the 1st pup who was very small at 3.5ozs, 2nd pup born after injection from vet. 3rd pup born dead after C section at 3am this morning, pup had been dead for a while so very lucky that she went early. Both pups doing well as is mum, but very early days.

Molly is 13 today. The years seem to have flown by! We have a so much fun with her. Molly was very successful in the show ring teaching me a lot. This is her favourite place to lie as the others are not allowed on the furniture. Iain and I have been married 21years today although I dont think we will have a bit of her cake!! She will though enjoy steak for her tea.

On sunday we went along to a companion show Spey Valley dog training club were holding for th Duke of Edinburgh's Award. It was being run in conjunction with Rrrrallye. Rrrallye is all about promoting road awareness for young people. Stu Harper was one of the many young people to loose their life on the Moray roads. Mum and Inka were 1st in the terrier class, Claire and Kaya (staffy) were 3rd.

Saturday was our local show. As I was working at it, I did not get any pictures.
Caitlin and Rowan got Best Any Variety Not Seperatly classified terrier then Group 2.
Poppy was 3rd in the class. And Inka 4th in her class.
In the junior handling Glenn borrowed Esme and was very happy with his 3rd. Lewis was 2nd with Ria winning their class. Jodie was 1st and best overall junior handler. Becky and Whisper 2nd, Caitlin borrowed Storm an Austrialian shepard dog and was really pleased to get 3rd as she has never met the dog before.

May 2009 and SKC has come around again. Due to the judge (Jeff Luscott) I could not take Ceilidh along as he gave us our 1st CC last year so eithics stop us from showing her under him again. So we only took along the Cesky terriers, and had a very successful day. Pictures below with the dogs.

Caitlin decided to have a go at the Young Kennel Club grooming class. They can compete in either the groom through or the Clip/trim and strim class. She took part in the Clip/trim and strim with Poppy as her very patient model and they won the class. So pleased that she did a good job as Poppy still had to go into her breed class after and was placed 2nd. This means that Caitlin has quailifed for the grooming at Crufts 2010 and also Poppy for the breed class at crufts. Poppy also had her eye testing done and we are pleased to say that she tested clear for PRA at this time.

Saturday was Terrier, hound and toy day at SKC Morven was 2nd in the Junior Handling Association 6-11 class and then won the Young Kennel Club 6-11 year class. well done.

Lewis Fraser was VHC in the JHA 6-11 class. Well done to them both. Caitlin and myself were down. I will post the results later.

Glenn's primary class took part in the Scottish opera today. They worked with the 3 school catchment area's that will be going up to High School after the summer holidys. This is a great way of the pupils making friends before they go into 1st year. Glenn's class are the Egyptions. Click on the picture to enlarge. Bronze practice Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Saturday 9th May we met up with 28 young people participating in their Bronze Dof E Award.

Satrting point Glenlivet cemetery car park. The participants are put into 4 groups with 2 adult leaders per group.

First break for the group I was leading this is near Blairfindy lodge. It took us around an hour to get here!

We thought it was time to do another post about the puppies. Although the 5 pups were really healthy when they were born we lost 3 of them to Fading puppy syndrome at 7 days old. The 2 surviving pups are very well and as you can see from the pictures growing well.

With less than a month to go until the Irish Kennel Club hosted European Winners Show in Dublin an outbreak of Canine Brucellosis has been announced in Southern Ireland. This is a notifiable disease and a zoonosis (can be caught by humans). By current EU law if an outbreak is confirmed, rather than an isolated case, the worst case scenario would see an embargo on all movement of dogs in and out of the country. Even the best case scenario, if such an outbreak is confirmed, could see an instant imposing of no canine movement without up to date vaccination.

The Loch of Trouble!!!

The Splorin wolfies asked for some more information on the floating city in the middle of the water.

Lochindorb Castle is located on the bleak Dava Moor south of Nairn and Forres on the way to Grantown-on-Spey and Aviemore, in the south-eastern heart of the Scottish Highlands.
It sits on a partly man-made island in this remote loch, 6.5 miles north-west of Grantown-on-Spey and is not accessible by public transport, so you will need a car or bike to get here - and then of course a boat if you want to go across! The best time to visit is when the heather is in bloom and the moor is a carpet of purple.
Lochindorb comes from the Gaelic meaning 'Loch of Trouble' and the castle has certainly had its fair share of that! Dating back to the 13th century, it was originally held by the Comyns, but later occupied by the English and was visited by Edward I in 1303 when he stayed here for 9 days, hunting out on the moor. Later it was used as a prison and also a garrison for English troops. At the end of the 14th century, it was gifted by Robert II to his third son, the notorious Wolf of Badenoch, Alexander Stewart, who rampaged around quite a bit of the local area. Lochindorb was said to be his favourite haunt.
When the Scottish Privy Council instructed the Thane of Cawdor to dismantle Lochindorb after it had been forfeited by the Earl of Moray in around 1455, the huge iron yett was transported to Cawdor Castle and can now be seen in the bowels of the building.
Although now in ruins, the castle was still in fairly good condition up until the end of the 18th century when its four 7-metre high round towers were intact. The main quadrangular courtyard is 48 x 38 metres in dimensions and is enclosed by a 2-metre thick wall which stands 6 metres high. A later extension to the south was made probably to give the island extra protection from assault. Apparently it was bought by the Cawdor Campbells in the 1970s.

As part of my work I am out with young people taking part in training for expeditions. Recently we have been out for training in Lochindorb then we take them walking from Glenlivet to Tomintoul. One of our other training areas is Rothes some of the views are stunning.

Easter sunday we went to an open show at Invergordon

Ceilidh was Best of Breed and then went on to get Best terrier Findlay was Best Terrier puppy. Poppy was Best AVNSC terrier and Group 2 Caitlin got to help out with the import class and was placed second with Corey. Once again Logie was best import he got this on Saturday as well

Yesterday was National Terrier, we should have been down but we have been having car probelms. For the last 3 weeks we have only had one car, Iains car was away getting anew water pump and I was assured I would have it for friday it was not to be.

My Saturday

Instead of dog showing, me mum and dad went to the scottish taekwon do championships,This first picture is of me doing my pattern in the first event.

This next picture is of the masters panel,the one in the middle is Grand master rhee ki ha, the world taekwondo master(he signed my taekwondo suit)

This is a picture of the demonstration for the grand master coming in, they got wood, poured white spirit over the top, set it alight and stamped on them putting the flames out and braking the boards

Although i won nothing i had a great time and my mate (who is a black belt) got scottish overall champion in his division

Companion Dog Show

Yesterday Caitlin, mum and myself thought we would go to Moray Firth Ringcraft Club's companion show at North Kessock. There were some good wins from our club.

Caitlin got Best Junior handler with Georgia 2nd(she also got the Best Veteran with her dalmation) and Lewis 3rd(this is the first time Lewis had handled his puppy in a clss) it was a huge class so well done all.

We had 4 girls represent Scotland at Crufts this year.

6-11 years Morven McDonald and Caitlin Leiper. Morven won this section and was 3th overall

12-16 Stacey Mason who has been Scottish Junior handler of the year 2 years in a row

and also been placed twice.
Caitlin Forbes who was 4th overall in 2002 when she was 8 this is one of the youngest competitors to be placed. Caitlin then won Scottish Junior Handler 2007.

Crufts 2009

Caitlin, Jodie and myself left on wednesday morning to travel down to Crufts. This was Jodie's first ever visit to Crufts and was just a little excited!!!!

Jodie was very taken a back when she realised that the welcome to England sign was the only land mark for the border.

We have a few photo's which I will get on later although here is who Caitlin and Jodie met not long after they got through the Crufts door on Thursday. Kate and Gin also Kate's new puppy Ice.

We had a few reasonable wins. Caitlin handled Fergus in Veteran and got 2nd. Ceilidh was 5th in her class. Caitlin and Jodie then had to run up to the Cesky ring and Caitlin and Rowan were 2nd with Jodie and Poppy getting 5th. What an experience for Jodie to go to Crufts then to get in the ring on her first visit there. Sorry we do not have photo's of these wins as we were all handling in different halls.

This is Wilma and Chloe ( Caitlin occasionally handles Chloe in junior handling) winning the Best Puppy in Breed.

As Glenn has gone off to Ski camp I thought I would do a short post for him. This morning at 4am Chip who was one of his pet rats died. He was one of the most gentle rats Glenn has had. Glenn was devasted this morning but he and his dad were out in the rain to bury him in the back garden. When he comes home on Friday he is going to go on to Rainbow's Bridge.

Yesterday mum, Caitlin and Jodi went down to Brechin for a Hands on assassment and points of the dog seminar. They had to do an exam at the end and guess what, they all passed!!!

During all this commotion, I stayed at home with dad and with 2 friends (as part of my birthday 17th feb) we went to the pictures to see "Bolt"! and then to the health food shop a.k.a. Mcdonalds.

A very early start for yesterday's show!! We left at 5am, with a stop on the way to feed the ponies.

Fergus was 1st in the ring and got 5th in the Veteran dog class.

Jodie and Molly were 1st in Cocker Spaniel junior and a 3rd in the open class.

Becky and Whisper 1st Golden Retriever puppy bitch. 1st in Novice and BP in breed.

It was about 3pm before the terriers started and Caitlin was asked to take a westie puppy Barbarella Cheeky Breeks into the breed challenge and won BOB she then got puppy group 4.

In the Glen of Imaal class Findlay took the BOB and Bp then puppy group 3

AVNSC terrier Rowan was 2nd.

The Young Kennel club handling class was the first of the handling classes. Although Glenn, Caitlin, Becky and Jodie all handled very well they were not successful in getting placed.

Junior handling association class was much later. These were large classes. Becky decided to take Whisper home so did'nt get into this class. Glenn was in a class of around 8 and won it!!!

Caitlin won her class and Jodie was 3rd. Caitlin then went and won the BJH over Glenn. This qualifies both Caitlin and Glenn for the SKC handling final wich takes place in 2010. Crufts 2010 and Richmond 2009. Jodie qualifies for Richmond.

Thanks to their judge Mr Russell Mosedale who really made them work for their wins.

First show of the year.

Today was the first of the shows that we attend in the year.

It was cold and we had to stop at the stud dog on the way there with one of the westie's so here's hoping for puppies in 9 weeks time!!

Ceilidh got BOB and group 3 even though her coat still has not come through.

Then it was A.V terrier not sep. cassified open. This was the biggest terrier class with an entry of 13 we hope they will give us 2 classes next time. Poppy did really well an got a 3rd.

Then it was through for the handling competition.

Glenn borrowed his favourite pup for his class and was really happy to get 2nd to Caitlin Lepier, Lewis was 3rd with Jazz and Ria 4th with Jasper.

Caitlin borrowed Chole for her class and got 2nd to Stacey with Becky getting 3rd.

Becky and Whisper did well getting Puppy Best of Breed and Gundog puppy group 2

There was even adult handling. Morag and Logie had a go at this with Morag getting placed 3rd but Logie had already out done her by getting Best Import.

Jodie did really well today and although not placed in the Junior handling got 2nd's in her breed class with Molly. Sorry I did not get her picture.

Caitlin decided that christmas had been too quiet!!! Sunday evening seen us in the emergency department of the local hospital with stomach pains. She was sent home with lots of pain killers. Tuesday seen her doubled up in pain and another visit was taken up by her own doctor who decided that we had better go into the hospital. The last day of 2008 saw the end of Caitlins appendix, she has since made a good recovery and is now at home albeit very sore.

Giants Chair

On Monday we decided to go to my favourite walk!!

The Giants Chair is in Dufftown it was quite a bit warmer then Garmouth, although still very frosty. The water is really clear.

The Giants Chair is a rock formation, on the way up to it is the Little Apron a very pretty waterfall.Looking down from the Giants Chair.
